Comics: the ninth art

In an increasingly image-driven world, comics are an art form in their own right. They are both works of creative authorship and mass market products that use images and text to bring innovative styles of drawing and issues of interest to an ever broader readership. It has, however, taken comics a long time to be accepted as worthy of libraries. BBF interviews Gilles Ciment, former director from 2007 to 2014 of France's specialist comics museum and research centre, the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image in Angoulême.
