Public libraries in the Netherlands

Public libraries in the Netherlands work in close collaboration, thanks to networking, largely via the VOB (Vereniging van Openbare Bibliotheken), the association of public libraries. Integrated in urban development programmes, modern, and open to the outside world, public libraries focus on services and multimedia, and constitute living spaces that play a major role in the Dutch democratic environment, as illustrated by the new central library of Amsterdam, open in July 2007.
