Adolescents -the unknown beings
The place of adolescents in libraries and reading policy for young people ought to be at the centre of librarians' concerns in the next few years. The absence of global thinking is truly deplorable, as much in the professional literature as among staff. The question of adolescents relates back to that of mediation, that is to say, above all, of relationship. Our relationship with adolescents, as book and reading professionals, obliges us to rethink our job. We must stop thinking of ourselves as suppliers, and involve young people at the very heart of actions, in a citizen's approach. This choice involves resources, in personnel and in budget, and requires a basic review of training, by focusing it on the public.
