The network of French multimedia libraries abroad: a policy of development for the long term

France possesses, abroad, the first network of cultural, university and scientific institutions in the world. About ten years ago this network benefited from a programme of modernisation of its libraries and from important exceptional funding. Public information multimedia libraries "à la française" as they are, these new facilities are developing with the help of professionals and experts, and vary according to the countries where they are based. Places favoured by cultural diversity in dialogue and in debating about ideas, these multimedia libraries are the living heart and the key element of a cultural system firmly established for the long term future.
