Teaching and reading at university
The real information needs of students during their first (two) years at university are essentially dependent on the content of the lectures, but also on the teaching methods and assessment. On the other hand, students have a narrowly utilitarian approach to higher education, which limits even more their requests for material. University libraries no longer seem to offer what students want - undoubtedly through lack of adequate funds, but also because of an incorrect appreciation of their needs. Some solutions are explored aimed at tempting these first and second year students to "get down to reading".
