An Analytical Matrix of the Public and Their Motives for Estrangement

The users of libraries are diverse, in their social and cultural group, their demands, their usage, their distance from the library. Librarians multiply projects and services in the users'favour, at the risk of losing a universal and coherent representation of their activities. The "analytical matrix of the public" presented here, in its mode of construction and application, can show whether a reflection carried out, a service offered, an activity put in place for a specific public, serve equally for other groups. It is of course also the versatility of librarians in their reception of all users which is defended here.
