The users and their public libraries
In 1979, concerned with the first effects of the policy of modernization of the public libraries, the Direction du livre had realized a survey within the French population : "The experience and the image of the public libraries". This survey has been renewed in 1995 and will be entirely finished in 1997 : this article is a stage report, a synthesis of the results of its first part, led among the users of thirty-three public libraries.
