The constructions of public libraries : general tendencies

During the last ten years, a durable dynamics is born as regards library constructions. Progress is quantative as well as qualitative. The library is now invested with a symbolic function, and made responsible for giving an urban emblematic image ; the architecture of the buildings has an increasing importance. The recent realizations try to reconcile two aspirations, a priori divergent : the research of an open and transparent library, and the return to more intimate spaces, throwing back to the traditional image of the study library.
