The Bibliothèque de la Sorbonne has an important heritage collection : manuscripts, engravings and printed documents from the Middle Ages to 1800. This collection has got from its main origin - university institutions and former teachers - a learned and austere nature, in spite of exceptions linked to unforeseen contributions. Its recent development is organized around three activities : the publication of the catalogues - printed ones for the manuscripts, or cataloguing of printed materials in the SIBIL database ; the organization of exhibitions, within a limited budget framework ; the involvement in a research programme, the Corpus iconographique de l'histoire du livre.
