Space and collection : a documentary space, renewed and long-term managed
Beyond the official standards recommending certain quantities of collections for ideal building surface areas, in a library the reality of collections expresses itself at first on the existing space. But the function of these offices have themselves changed. From now on, the library space is no more a space for documentary storage open to the public's delight ; it becomes a space of uses in which it is the meeting between the user and the document which has the first place. This conception has repercussions on the physical dimension of knowledge and of the appropriation of knowledge in the management of a collection as well as on the future place of the electronic multimedia within the libraries.
