Long life to the reviews

General or specialized, the review became differentiated from the other forms of press at the beginning of the 19th century. The review is deeply engraved by its founders' mind and by the publishing notion of the editing team. Often created against the customs, the review is not an answer to a market need and does not work according to profitability criteria. As a specific product, with distinctive style, ideas and aesthetic, it bears a relation with time and page which is different from the magazine and the newspaper ; it builds its success on subscriptions. Fragile, changing, sometimes short-lived, it needs a special treatment in the matter of acquisition and conservation. In order to avoid the mistakes of the past (ignorance, negligence, destruction), the author urges librarians to adopt an individual policy of curiosity, of audacity and help for the review.
