Overview of libraries, edition, higher studies and scientific information systems in Japan. Reading and book production have developed in favour of periodicals and paperbacks. Libraries have existed for a long time and have developed mostly in the years fifty. So far they are remaining beside technical and scientific information programs. The JICST is as important as the CNRS, both of them hosts and databases producers.
