Colloque sur le code de catalogage

Un « Institute on catalog code revision » s'est tenu à Montréal, à l'Université McGill du 12 au 17 juin 1960. Ce colloque était organisé par la « Cataloguing section » de la « Canadian library association » (présidente : Sœur Francis Dolores du « Mount Saint Vincent College »), par la « Cataloguing and classification section » de la « Resources and technical services division » de l' « American library association » (président : Richard S. Angell de la « Library of Congress »), enfin par l'Université McGill.

Ce colloque a réuni 68 bibliothécaires du Canada et 177 des États-Unis spécialisés dans les questions de catalogage.

Ont en outre été invités à ce colloque, par l'« American library association », grâce à une subvention du « Council on library resources », les quatre membres du Comité d'organisation de la conférence internationale sur les principes de catalogage qui doit se tenir à Paris, en 196I, sous le patronage de la Fédération internationale des associations de bibliothécaires. Le Comité, rappelons-le, est composé de M. Chaplin (Royaume-Uni), Mme Lavrova (U.R.S.S.), MM. Sickmann (Allemagne) et Poindron (France).

Les travaux du colloque ont été présidés par M. Wright (Williams college library). L'objet principal de ce colloque était la discussion du projet de révision des règles de catalogage préparé pour le « Cataloguing code revision committee », par M. Seymour Lubetzky.

Trois documents de travail avaient été distribués aux participants :
- le projet de code comportant un commentaire par Paul Dunkin (School of library service Rutgers University);

Trotier (University of Illinois library). - VII : Government publications, par Bella E. Shachtman (U. S. Department of agriculture library). - VIII : Works entered under title, par Jennette E. Hitchcock (Stanford University libraries). - IX : A reference librarian looks at the proposed catalog code, par David R. Watkins (Yale University library). - X : Experiment in the application of the revised rules, par Olivia Faulkner and C. Summer Spalding (Library of Congress). - XI : Problems of changing from the old rules to the new, par Maurice F. Tauber (School of library service, Columbia University ) and Robert E. Kingery (New York public library);
- une étude intitulée « Experiment in the application of the revised rules » par Olivia Faulkner et C. Sumner Spalding (Library of Congress).
