Librarians, participation and professional expertise
Developing public engagement in libraries means bringing users in to take part in user reception services, collections, programming cultural events, and training, all of which require a degree of professional expertise. The article looks at proposals to increase public involvement in such tasks requiring knowledge of library science and studies the value of expert knowledge in librarians and lay or knowledge-based expertise in users.
