A librarian’s point of view on the place of religion in public library collections
The place of religion in library collections and, broadly speaking, in libraries as spaces open to the public has the potential to raise sometimes thorny issues for French librarians, who have to negotiate between the official state policy of secularity in public life, particularly at a time of heightened terrorist threat, and the democratic culture of pluralism at the heart of what libraries stand for.
