The LRU law, five years on: the age of maturity?

Three years on from his previous article on the topic for BBF, Christophe Péralès, director of the Université Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines library, discusses the impact the LRU law has had on both the library’s place within the institution and on its budget. After a positive beginning, where costs were pooled with research units, the situation has become more complicated as the university as a whole has come under increasing budget pressure. Have library resources become an adjustment variable? The article concludes with a call to rethink approaches to teaching along more Anglo-American lines.
