A new database of theses – a new opportunity for libraries? A case study at the Lille 2 and Valenciennes university libraries

The decision to implement a nation-wide e-repository of PhD theses has proved a catalyst for libraries, encouraging them to redefine themselves in relation to research. A law voted on August 7, 2006 charged libraries with stocking, cataloguing, printing, distributing, and conserving theses, giving them a central role in implementing the new repository. What impact did the decision to launch this new e-repository have on libraries? This article provides a case study of the Lille 2 and Valenciennes university library services.
