Students, books and university libraries

Surveys by the Observatoire de la vie étudiante (Observatory of Student Life) demonstrate that over the course of the period 1997-2006, books lost ground as part of the student experience. This trend should be read in relation to the increasing emphasis on scientific and technological culture, seen particularly in the development of professional diplomas and the relative decline in traditional subjects. In this context, libraries have also seen a significant drop in use. However, these general trends mask a wide range of circumstances, depending on the fields of study in question.
