I am unworthy of such a journey: translating the Bible

The history of Bible translations dates back over two thousand years, and in that time has raised countless storms of controversy. The fate of these ancient texts, held sacred by their believers, depends on the survival of languages and of scholarly traditions – both impermanent reminders of our human frailty. Their ink has mingled with the blood of men accused of betraying the promise of salvation and the life everlasting by their imperfect mastery of words and language.
