Films at the Bibliothèque publique d’information (Information Public Library)

The BPI (Bibliothèque publique d’information), a laboratory for the communication of moving pictures in public libraries, has had to cope since it was set up with the massive influx of films on line and to keep abreast with this digital evolution. The author looks back at the evolution of mediums, methods of communication and the documentary policy at the BPI throughout its thirty years’ existence; an evolution which has led to the choice of digitization and the promotion of documentary films. These choices are notably translated, in terms of regional activity and cooperation, by a selection of documentary films undertaken with Images en bibliothèque, the setting up of a national catalogue, and the provision, for partner libraries, of digitized films.
