The collections of moving pictures at the French National Library: from analogue to digital, or how to treat the past, the present and the future

As an outcome of the legal deposit of videos since 1975, the collection of moving pictures at the French National Library is of necessity extremely diversified. Its catalogue is effective since 1992 and records are available on BN Opale+. Conservation relies on a Plan for preservation with as its objective to digitize the whole of the analogical resource. Communication is carried out thanks to an audiovisual system set up in 1966. If, over the past ten years, digitization has completely renewed its activities and multiplied the possibilities of use, these are still very little known to the public.
