From the search for a site to the adoption of a style of architecture
The author looks at the different stages of the dynamic which have linked librarianship and innovative architecture over the last fifty years in the building of public libraries: the supermarket as model, the return of the “cathedral”, and the library as enhancer of the value of national heritage and of the nation’s collective memory. She also recalls the principal legislative texts and regulations which have underpinned this dynamic.
