The "test weeks": evaluation of on-site use of printed works at the Bpi (Public Reference Library)

The Bpi carries out a study of the on site consultation of monographs during evaluation weeks. The mechanism, which includes a unit of counting and a unit of shelving, uses cross measures in order to understand the distribution of use and also those relative to the distribution of the collections (by sectors and fields). The observations during these weeks, which are spread out and contrasted in time, allow for the measurement of structural tendencies and seasonal variation linked to the presence of students. The data from the evaluation weeks are also used in order to help develop the collections in function of the indications collected.
