Libraries and Information Literacy: the state of the art

Information Literacy has as its aim to give users the means to acquire a real command of information. The author of the article gives an overview of the main trends of IL in university libraries: collaboration between teaching staff and information professionals, content of programmes and institutional recognition, linked to an evaluation of training for students, are the subject of debate across the country. But outside libraries, IL concerns all citizens: the challenges are socio-economical, cultural and educational. It has become a preoccupation at international level.
