Literature: a new art subject in primary schools
The new syllabus for primary schools places literature, previously considered solely as means to support the acquisition of reading skills, together with other art subjects. The list of literary works established in 2002 represents a useful tool for teachers. It contains both classical and contemporary texts. The contact with demanding works should support the construction of a shared culture and help students to develop their personality. To put this programme into practice, teachers will require further training.
