The growing subordination of librarians to digital publishers leads them by reaction to fulfil some functions of electronic publishers.. The development of open archives and free software, however, endangers the possibility of improving the position of professional librarians in the field of scientific information.. In fact, insufficient scientific and technical training puts them at the mercy of academics and computer scientists.
