In Portugal, the building of a network
In Portugal, half a century of an authoritarian regime had left the libraries in a sorry state. Since the 1980s and the setting up of the "National network of public libraries", a strong movement for development and modernisation has been launched. This article analyses the principles of this programme, underlines the influences (notably French) that have inspired it, and presents the first results of its implementation.
