Standards for public libraries in England
Faced with declining lending figures and complaints about the diminishing attractiveness of public libraries in the country, the British government opted for a strategy aimed at controlling the performance of libraries by means of guidelines or standards. The first set of standards is applicable for a three-year period beginning in April 2001.
