Indexing of music and authority files: a practical point of view
Authority files in a catalogue must be treated in a global fashion, whatever documents are being indexed. Nevertheless, certain characteristics relating to the musical content require specific treatment (indexing of works by subject, standard music titles). This article looks from a practical viewpoint at the difficulties faced by cataloguers of music documents, taking into account also access to sources of information, processing by means of software packages and the supply of records.
