Scientific Expertise and Evaluation of Collections

In 1992, the Établissement public de la Bibliothèque de France carried out, with a specialist in linguistics, an evaluative study of foreign acquisitions of the national library in that field in recent decades. This analysis, which puts at a critical distance the representations of the discipline as its documentary resources, employs an original method of polling by key concepts and has furnished the BnF with a guide with which to control the evolution of editorial production, marked by a development in research into cognitive sciences as applied to linguistics. It also offers evidence of the need to correct and permanently reconcile a real evalution, from a collaboration between librarians and researchers.
