Conservation and Deposit Libraries of Higher Education

Operating since 1996, the Centre technique du livre de l'enseignement supérieur (CTLes), an autonomous public establishment, shares a site with a part of the conservation services of the BnF. Offering a storage capacity of 78 km of shelves, it lodges certain patrimonial and scientific collections of study and research libraries. Periodicals, theses and monographs are conserved in excellent conditions communicated over distance. In preparing to integrate the university system, the CTLes envisages different hypotheses as to its role in the matter of digitization or to its place in an eventual progression of shared management of periodical collections in university libraries. At the international level, co-operation between libraries of deposit seems to be taking shape.
