Illiteracy in France

In France, the fight against illiteracy was officially born in 1984 with the publication of a report entitled Des Illettrés en France, and the simultaneous creation of a ministerial authority, the Groupe permanent de lutte contre l'illettrisme. Since then, a network of participants has been woven together who can help people in difficulty with writing of growing complexity, to face up to it and recover confidence in themselves. In an increasingly demanding society, to stand up to such a challenge every day is an essential condition by which to safeguard the social fabric and the survival of democracy.
