Libraries and Economic Information : a European Approach

The information distributed by public and university libraries increasingly falls into the domain of the economy and business. Publishers in this highly competitive and internationalized field offer numerous publications, printed and computerized, on- and off-line. Faced with potentially strong demand, several European countries have organized an access network at the heart of which libraries play an essential role. To develop such services, professionals in some countries will confront administrative inflexibility, but above all cultural inflexibility, which nevertheless do not risk very much blocking the harmonization of library services that is already well underway.
