The open shelves of the Bibliothèque nationale de France
The open shelves of the BNF are divided into two levels, within thematic departments gathering disciplines, and classified according to the DDC. The shelf classification scheme - organized into a hierarchy - reflects the library organization. Its elaboration has required adaptations of the ddc, motives and typology are presented here. Created lists of marks constitute the mould of the signposting of the collections, and are used for the settling up of the books on the shelves.
