New stakes in standardization

The future of bibliographical document processing standardization depends nowadays on electronics. Although electronics are far beyond the librarians' influence and skills spheres, librarians have to act their role and defend their interests. New information techniques modify the approach to standardization works, as well in description, identification or document interchange, as in statistics and preservation techniques. This article wants to show that the working out of library standards integrated into data processing, telecommunications and optical memories sphere, or international administrative and economical interchanges, radically throws back into question our professional habits and has to form the subject of new thinking about within the librarians' world.
