Book routing in University libraries : task appraisal

Cataloguing computerization is becoming a reality in most University libraries. During previous research before computerization of these establishments, taken from significant sample of University libraries in the country, it clearly appears that cataloguing is one of the most beneficial functions of computerization, in spite of the necessary cost in equipment, software and telecommunication. The routing of documents : acquisition, cataloguing and equipment, is analysed in detail, according to types of staff. This gives the average cost of an available monograph. In this study the cost, which varies depending on disciplines and establishments, is mostly covered by the staff. More organization is necessary for old although often well known buildings. Before any computerization, it is necessary to analyse the routing of a book (or a periodical) to make sure the necessary procedures are strickly carried out by the right people.
