Another kinds of libraries

France, after having been for many years underequipped with public libraries, has benefited from the dynamism of Unions and Associations which were the forerunners in dispensing books to specific audiences : hospitals, jails, companies,... Since 1981, thanks to the unprecedented efforts of the State and local authorities, the reading supply has deeply changed mostly due to the building of many public and régional libraries. Associations with which no one can compete to ensure a large diffusion of books all over the territory are developping a very close relationship with the public libraries system, thus playing a role in becoming a resource and training center for this « tiers réseau ».
