Reading in the railway environment

From about forty interviews with a same professional environment - French railway workers, technicians and employees -, this research updates the differentiation and the evolution of the reading logics, meanings and behaviours of these officers. The reading practice is analysed from the meaningful things in their daily life, inside or outside the job. It's necessary to connect the evolution of their relations with the writing as much to the transformations of the family life and leisure time as to these of the job area... The link with the professional competence is essential to understand the relations of the railway officers with all sort of writing. The cognitive schemes which underlie the job practice make the reception and interpretation of the writing by the different officers.
