The French library advisory council

In 1989, is created in France a Library advisory council. It was asked for many years by professional librarians and recent movements in decentralization made it needful. Several other European countries already have library councils, on a rather similar way. The French council has no direct power on libraries authorities but is acting in proposing and expertising and gives « recommandations ». Eight commissions have begun to work on different themes such as training, national catalogue, European community projects, legal deposit, copyright. The Library council's first report will issue at the beginning of 1991.
