Microfilm, technology with a future: the American exemple

The technology of microfilm, which is mainly developed in the United States of America, is especially set up in firms, where it is one of the first media for the storage and the exploitation of documents. Reliable, long-lasting, with a rather low cost, the microfilm is compared to digital optical disks. The addition of colour, the duplication of half-tone and micro-edition widen the market for this medium. However it is still under-exploited in libraries, although it is considered as the best means to save the collections.
