Good or bad time : adolescents' reading

Inquiry on sunday reading time of twelve years old pupils. Not only love for reading but also love for school separates " little readers " from " great " ones. For weak readers, who have to work hard at it, reading is a constraint which reminds school. Paradoxically, they read because of this institution, and do but little besides it. Adolescents who devote more time to reading, often because of a social and familial environment more favorable, have to learn to master their time. For them, reading is inserted in an organized educational set which allows no place for idling. Spare time after school, arts and sports activities is naturally devoted to reading. As well as " little readers ", " great " ones have no book competence. The first differ less from the others by their relation to books than by the quantity of books they read: " Interest seems to preceed competence ".
