Does communication create new jobs ?

Assessment of the employment evolution in the communication field (1976-1985). This area covers the production of infrastructures, distribution and publishing activities. Although it occupies only a reduced space inside the French economy, it is very dynamic, as it appears in the steady growth of the jobs during the last ten years. But this development is very irregular and contrasted depending on the areas. The traditional industry (the post and the press), which is very heavy in absolute value, creates less jobs than all the networks and services areas, linked to the new technology.
