The Loops of the polls

Presentation of the inquiry on the cultural attitudes of the French (Les Pratiques culturelles des Français), held on a sample representative of the population over fifteen; the different cultural habits are related to socio-demographic identification variables. The methodology used (numerous questions, selecting questions) avoids incertainty and overvaluation of the answers. The book is widespread, but the diploma remains the most relevant variable to explain the possession, purchasing and reading behaviour. The book can be found mostly among the young, the executive managers and the members of the liberal professions, in urban areas, above all in Paris and its suburbs. Public libraries have a rather limited influence and seem to attract the same public than the other networks
