Myths of library automation

Through the study of the nine myths of library automation, the author can perceive the objects, the terms and conditions of automation. He points out the need for a restructuration of the services and the fact that automation induces some money saving and productivity improvement; automated libraries can also achieve a rationalization of their management. The author fights with some prevailing ideas : online catalogs, role of the consultants, MARC, turnkey systems. He finally insists on the need for librarians to undertake their automation and come to grips with the new technologies.
