Users of a specialized library : study on readers of the Bibliothèque de Documentation Internationale Contemnoraine in 1978-1979

Since it opened in Nanterre, the BDIC has regularly received more users and it has appeared necessary to make a detailed survey of the origins, level and interests of these users in order to obtain a better definition of the library's functions. The same users come regularly to the BDIC and request numerous documents on a specific subject. They come from Paris, from outside Paris and from other countries (87 countries in 1978-1979) in equal numbers. Changes in international politics have forced the BDIC to expand its scope without sufficient means to do so. This wider coverage meets the needs of research and the current desire to achieve a better understanding of contemporary world.
