The role of French overseas aid in developing public literacy in Burkina Faso

France has been promoting ambitious public literacy programmes around the world for nearly twenty years, helping develop library networks as part of the bilateral aid programmes launched in co-operation with partner states. The Fonds de Solidarité Prioritaire (FSP) programme, run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been the key channel for the delivery of such aid. One such FSP was launched in 2006 to support the public library network in Burkina Faso. The article looks back at how the project got underway and evaluates its results to date.
