The library network in the Annecy urban area: successes, remits, and perspectives for the future

The Annecy urban area, set up shortly after the millennium, manages a large number of cultural services, including the Bonlieu library in Annecy. It now has the means to launch a common cultural policy across the urban area. In terms of access to reading resources, the project aims to set up a network of inter-municipal, municipal, and community-run libraries across the wider urban area. Although the work has not always been easy, the first few years of the inter-municipal project have been marked by some clear successes and the librarians fully endorse the need for co-operation. However, the project currently seems to be in the doldrums and it is unclear whether it can be taken much further within its current framework.
