BrailleNet: A server for visually impaired library users

Hélène (the name is a pun on LN, or "livres numériques") is a pioneering project to build a server and library of digital books for the association BrailleNet. It intends to pool efforts in providing books for the visually impaired and create a regular, rationalised, and reliable supply chain for such works, involving stakeholders at every stage, from copyright holders to readers. The article looks back at the origins of the project, its goals and performance, the hurdles it has overcome, and the support it has enjoyed.
