A study of the cultural consumer habits of librarians: the impact of generational change

This article, based on a student dissertation by an ENSSIB graduate, presents the results of a study of French library staff as consumers of books, television, films, and the Internet. The results give an overview of the cultural profile of librarians and measure their participation (or lack thereof) in a number of major shifts in cultural consumption trends. They are analysed from the point of view of the primacy of age (and generation) over social class, with a particular focus on the consumption of mangas and video games, identified as "young" forms of culture.
