Folding IUFM documentation resources into university libraries: the long road ahead

France’s IUFMs (teacher training colleges), founded in 1990-1991, are now at a crucial stage in their history, as they are being integrated into the university system. Their documentation networks have undergone major developments over the last ten years –being restructured as pooled documentation resources, the introduction of computers, and the development of formal documentation policies– which have prepared them for this new step to a certain extent. However, a lack of human and financial resources threatens the success of the operation in the context of a highly uncertain future for the current proposals to reform teacher training and de-ring-fence university funding.
